Airtel rolls out Aadhaar based e-KYC solution for instant mobile connection activation

 

After Vodafone, Airtel has announced that it has started rolling out Aadhaar based e-KYC solution for instant activation of Airtel mobile connections, following the notification by the Department of Telecom (DoT).

Under the Aadhaar based instant verification process, customers purchasing a new Airtel prepaid/postpaid mobile connection need to submit/verify their Biometrics (iris scan / fingerprints) at the Point of Sale. The details will be instantly matched with the UIDIA database and following the validation, the connection will be activated instantly in the name of the customer.

Airtel said that it will enhance customer convenience and experience and the digital verification, which is fully secure, will also eliminate paperwork and benefit the environment.

The Aadhaar based e-KYC solution is now live in Airtel stores in Delhi NCR and will be rolled out across the country over the next few days in all company operated stores.

Commenting on the new initiative, Ajai Puri, Director – Operations (India & South Asia), Bharti Airtel, said:

Aadhaar based e-KYC for a mobile connection is a milestone for the telecom industry and will enhance customer experience through faster onboarding. A customer can now walk into an Airtel store and walk out with an active mobile connection in a matter of few minutes. The solution also complements the Government’s Digital India vision and will add to Airtel’s green initiatives.

Project Fi’s WiFi Assistant coming to all Nexus devices

Google’s Project Fi which was opened to all users since March comes with a WiFi Assistant feature that allows you to automatically and securely connect to open WiFi networks. The feature that was exclusive to Project Fi users will now be available for all Nexus devices.

These open WiFi networks are verified by Google and are reliable. WiFi Assistant uses a Google VPN to try and secure the connection. The WiFi Assistant app will be available for Nexus devices running Android Lollipop 5.1 or higher and these devices will not require a subscription to the wireless service. Users won’t be required to sign in or set up accounts to access the WiFi.

In order to enable WiFi Assistant will have to head over to the Android Settings app> Google>Networking. You can then toggle the feature on and off

Google says the tool can help improve average connection speeds and lower monthly data consumption, regardless of which wireless carrier provides cellular service to the phone. The Google WiFi Assistant is available to Nexus devices in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, the U.K. and Nordic countries. Google says it will roll out over the next few weeks.

Google launches video chat app, Duo, to compete with FaceTime, Skype and Messenger

Google has launched its video chatting app, called Duo.

It represents Google’s response to other popular video calling options, including Apple’s FaceTime, Microsoft’s Skype and Facebook’s Messenger.

It’s not that different from the other video chatting services, except that it gives users a glimpse at who’s making the call, helping people decide whether to answer or not.

Google says it’s calling the feature, “knock, knock”.

LG’s upcoming V20 will be first smartphone to feature 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC

LG has announced that its upcoming V20 smartphone will feature 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC capabilities, making it the first of its kind in the world. The South Korean company has once again partnered with ESS Technology for the feature – the latter also provided the 32bit DAC for the LG V10.

“A Quad DAC delivers a crisp and clear sound that comes closest to a live performance when using compatible wired headphones,” LG said in a press release. “Videos taken with the V20 are accompanied by a soundtrack that can capture the roaring sound of waves crashing on a beach or conversations among two individuals at a noisy party.”

“Higher quality audio is simply the natural evolution of the smartphone, as the industry moves toward a more holistic multimedia consumption experience,” said Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics and Mobile Communications. “We’re pleased to continue this long-term partnership with ESS and bring best in class audio to LG V20 users.”

The LG V20 is set to be unveiled on September 6.

Android 7.0 update will hit Samsung Galaxy Note7 in two to three months

Samsung has revealed that the Galaxy Note7, which runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, will be updated to Android 7.0 in “two to three months.” The revelation was made by Samsung Mobile President Koh Dong-jin.

This means that Samsung Galaxy Note7 owners should get the taste of Android Nougat by October or November.

“It is very important for us to offer up-to-date information with the new OS, but what’s more crucial is to build a stable and seamless platform for users,” Dong-jin added. “That’s why we are planning to do enough beta testing before any OS updates.”

It’s worth mentioning that LG has already confirmed that its upcoming V20 smartphone will be the first phone offering Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box.
